DHCP assignment by MAC addresses, will deny any unknown devices. I use a non-standard IP allocation within private space.VLANs to seperate the devices, with strict traffic rules (ie: the internet should never send traffic to the printer VLAN).Wireless I use WPA2-AES (non-standard SSID, long passphrase) + a VPN.Use a VM w/chrome for surfing "questionable" sites.Come back and check for malware beacons, weird SSL connections, etc. I have packet capture night, where I just run wireshark looking for malicious tracking while I go out for the night.I have strict egress rules on my perimeter device and hosts (and of course ingress).I regularly scan my home subnet with Nessus and Nexpose community, both are Vulnerability Scanners, nmap is good as well to tell you what is out there. This is as much about learning for me as it is a real requirement, I'm not suggesting that everyone needs to do this to be secure. I'll just list what I do at home for my 5 - 10 hosts (from printer to NAS, to iPad, to a number of machines physical and VMs).
